Hiking The Subway In Zion During The Winter

♡♡ Hi Everybody!

I recently just hiked the bottom up from the left fork of the north creek to the incredible SUBWAY slot canyon in Zion during the middle of winter! (January 2021) The Subway bottom up is a 9 mile round trip hike that first requires hiking down hill in extremely loose gravel, extensive route finding skills as there technically is no trail, multiple stream crossings and rock scrambling over cold wet rocks! My little brothers visited me for the holidays from Canada and while planning an adventurous itinerary for us, I came across permit availability for the Subway! I was shocked! The subway lottery permits are typically extremely hard to get but I was lucky enough to have obtained a winning lottery permit in the past and adventured into the Subway in the summer of 2018! For whatever reason the Kolob Terrance Region is way less sought-after during the winter "OFF" season and FYI it is way easier to be one of the 80 permit holders to witness the Subway that day. In fact there was only one other single hiker that we ran into that whole day! When picking up our permit at the Zion visitor center, the ranger warned us of the dangers when hiking Zion's wilderness in the winter and mentioned it would be much harder then when I had previously done it in the summer time. He said there would be icicles 8 feet tall and not to stand under them (TRUE), That we would be walking through knee high deep frigid cold water (Not exactly true, we did boulder cross most of the way), Climbing over slippery wet boulders (TRUE. I fell once - See Bloopers - & my brother fell a couple of times). Overall it wasn't as bad as the ranger made it out to seem and I found it actually easier to route find with previous hikers footprints in the snow and with the gravel being less loose and more frozen solid!

I hope that you enjoyed wandering with me through Zion's wilderness to the Subway and don't forget to 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 and 𝐒𝐔𝐁𝐒𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐁𝐄 for all future videos! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
